Tired of shots? You have options.
New technologies can mean more freedom and better control.
Life with diabetes is hard. The injections. The finger sticks. The feeling that your diabetes controls your life.
You want to be free of the constant worry. Questions like: "Is my blood sugar too high? Can I eat now? Is my A1c under control?" are always on your mind. Other people don’t have to worry about this stuff. But you do. There is another way: Insulin Pump Therapy. And we want to tell you all about it.
Life is sweet without injections.
But before we do, imagine: no more needles to take with you when you leave the house. No more eating on a schedule. Eat what YOU want when you want. Live your life YOUR way. That’s what pumping is all about. Just ask anyone who's on one.
Best of all, instead of multiple shots each day, you only need to change your "infusion set" once every 3 days. It's a pretty great deal. Oh, and did we mention that your A1c will be easier to control on a pump?
What's an Insulin Pump, anyway?
An insulin pump is just a small device, kind of like a cell phone or MP3 player that holds insulin. You can wear it on your belt, inside your pocket, or just about anywhere you can imagine. It's connected to your body by a plastic tube called an infusion set.
The pump automatically provides a little bit of insulin to your body throughout the day. Then, when you eat or your blood sugars get a little high, you just push a couple of buttons to give yourself a bolus, and that's it. Many pumps even come with a built in "bolus calculator" that tells you exactly how much insulin you need based on your finger sticks. It doesn't get much easier than that!
